Previous publication or submission

Articles previously published in another journal and/or in another language will not be considered for publication in the Journal. If the manuscript was previously submitted elsewhere and not accepted, the authors may provide a copy of the peer review comments and detailed response.

Human and non-human experimentation.

When reporting experiments on human subjects, authors should indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional and national) and with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 2000. (World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki: ethical principles for medical research involving human subjects. JAMA. 2000 Dec 20; 284(23):3043-5).

For the non-human experiments on animals or other species, authors must state in the Material and Methods section of the manuscript that the guidelines for the care and use of the animals approved by the local institution were followed. The type(s) of species used in an investigation must be named in the Title, Abstract, and Material and Methods sections of the manuscript.

Authorship.

Each author must qualify by having participated actively and sufficiently in the study that is reported. The inclusion of each author must be based only on substantial contributions to concept and design, collecting the information or analysis and interpretation of data and drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content; The approval of each author must be sent along with the manuscript being submitted.

Other persons, as the participants of studies, have to be mentioned in the “Acknowledgments” sections.

Copyright statement.

Upon acceptance, the publisher will require a signed copyright statement.

Direct quotations, tables, or figures that have appeared in copyrighted material must be accompanied by written permission for their use from the copyright owner and original author along with complete reference information. Photographs of identifiable persons must be accompanied by signed releases; if not, all recognizable features must be masked.

Requirements for the preparation of manuscripts.

The requirements for manuscripts submitted to the Journal generally conform to the requirements established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (www.icmje.org).

Manuscripts must be submitted in English, with a font size no smaller than 12, in Microsoft Word 2000 or more recent edition. The manuscripts will be corrected, including the references, and must be scientific and linguistic coherent.

Number pages consecutively in the upper right-hand corner in the following order: title page, condensation, abstract, text, acknowledgments, references, figure legends and tables.

The author(s) accept(s) responsibility that the electronic file is complete and accurate upon submission, revision and acceptance.

- Title page (page 1)

The title page (page 1) should contain, in the following sequence: the title (concise and suitable for indexing purposes); the first name for the authoresses or the initial of the first name for the authors and the last name of the authors, without other abbreviations, with highest academic degrees; city or cities, state(s) and country or countries in which the study was conducted; divisional and/or departmental and institutional affiliations at the time the study was performed; source(s) of financial support; the name, address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address of the author responsible for correspondence.

Word count: The word counts of manuscript (excluding the abstract) should be stated in the lower left corner of the title page and on the checklist.

- Condensation (Synopsis) (page 2)

Page 2 of the manuscript should consist of a no more than 25 words presentation, that briefly states its essential point(s).

- Abstract page (page 3)

Page 3 of the manuscript should consist of the abstract, preceded by the title of the article and the name(s) of the author(s).

Below the abstract, 3 to 5 key words or short phrases should be listed for indexing purposes.

The structure of the abstract

The structure of the abstract should have 10-15 rows, no more than 150 words and should contain the purpose of the study, the used method (clinic or experimental study, metaanalysis), the main results and the significant conclusions.

Abbreviations

Abbreviations are not acceptable in the title and should be avoided, if possible, in the abstract. Conventional units of measure of International System are recommended. Only standard abbreviations may be used (see the AMA manual for abbreviations). In text, the abbreviations will be mentioned in parentheses at the first use, after the full word or phrase for which they stand.

- Text (page 4)

The editors recommend that Research Articles be organized into sections identified with the following headings:

  • Introduction: State concisely the purpose and rationale for the study. Present only the background, supported by a limited number of pertinent references, necessary for the reader to understand why the study was conducted. The introduction should not include any data or conclusions from the current study.

  • Material and Methods: Describe briefly the plan, patients, experimental animals, materials, methods, inclusion-exclusion criteria, procedures and statistical method(s) employed. Only the generic or chemical names of drugs will be accepted.

  • Results: This section includes detailed findings and must cite all tables and/or figures, which should supplement, not duplicate the text. Emphasize only the most important observations; do not compare your observations with those of others. Such comparisons and comments are reserved for the Comment section.

  • Comments, conclusions: Do not repeat the details of data presented under Results or present any new data here. The comments present the report of the personal results to those from references. Emphasize the new aspects pointed out by study and analyzes their implications and the limits of the stud

  • • Use of statistics

In describing the statistical analyses that have been performed, authors must clearly state which tests were used to evaluate a specific data set. When data are presented in tabular form, the statistical test used to evaluate the data should be indicated with a footnote for each test use.

- Acknowledgments (page 5)

Only persons who have had substantial contributions to the study should be named in this section.

- References (page 6)

Reference format should follow the Biomedical Journals recommendations (www.icmje.org).

References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text, using Arabic numerals. It is compulsory that all the references to be cited in text and to not appear in text referrals to materials which aren’t mentioned in bibliography. The titles of the periodicals will be abbreviated according to the international recommendations - Index Medicus (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/tsd/serials/terms_cond.html). The unpublished data, but accepted for publication, should be cited. Those informations should be designed as “in press” in rounded parentheses. If the paper isn’t accepted yet, it will be mentioned as “unpublished observations”. Only the references consulted by the authors of the article should be cited.

Examples of correct citations:

a. Journal article: The authors, the original title of the article, the journal with the international abbreviations, the year, the volume, the number of the journal, the first and the last pages.

Personal communications and unpublished data.

If essential, these may be used, within parentheses, at the appropriate location in the text, not as numbered references. Written, signed permission from the individuals(s) quoted must accompany the manuscript upon submission.

- Figures, Pictures, Tables (page 7)

Submit figures and tables, each in a separate file, not embedded in the manuscript document. Cite figures consecutively, as they appear in the text, the figures with Arabic numbers and the tables with Roman numerals. Each figure and table must be assigned a title as well as a legend. The figures, pictures and tables must be in JPEG format starting from at least 300 dpi (image size). Legends should appear on a separate page, not on the figure. The figures must be professionally designed. Each photo must have a footnote, containing the number, the title of the article and the prim-author. The superior part must be indicated by an arrow (if is not possible to conclude which it is otherwise). All the illustrations should be identified with Arabic numbers. The authors should indicate in text where the illustrations should be put.

Legends of illustrations

It is recommended to state the results in international units of measure. Only international accepted abbreviations may be used.

Publication Format.

The recommended conditions of the articles are:

  • clinical studies, surgical therapeutics, clinical opinions/reports: 7 authors (in case of multi center studies: 12 authors) (the authors beyond 7 may be mentioned in the Acknowledgments section), maximum 3000 words, 25 references. Include a structured abstract of no more than 150 words and accompanied by 3 to 5 key words/phrases for indexing purposes. The number and the size of tables and images are taken into account.

  • case reports and scientific communications: limited to 5 authors, 700 words, and 3 references. Include a standard abstract of no more than 75 words and accompanied by 3 to 5 key words/phrases for indexing purposes.

  • book reviews, journals reports, reports regarding the activity of the profile societies and scientific manifestations: 1-2 pages.

The succession of the articles in the journal is determined by: date of the reception, editorial necessities and the observance of the requirements. Priorities for some present interest may occur, asked by the editorial board or special interest articles.
